ICMCI are delighted to announce that in July 2001, the organisation was granted Special Consultative Status by the United Nation’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This Special Consultative Status is a strategic positioning opportunity that will give ICMCI international recognition.
ECOSOC has endorsed ICMCI’s practice of sending highly qualified and experienced management consultants to countries with less developed economies. ICMCI trains, coaches and mentors local management consultants and fledgling institutes of management consultants in the fundamentals of consulting and networking with other Institutes of Management Consulting (IMC’s) in their region and around the world. ICMCI also assists management consultants in developing a Code of Ethics, standards for membership and certification, and setting up programs to help consultants in neighbouring countries.
Having been granted Special Consultative Status, ICMCI may now designate official representatives to the UN — to the UN headquarters in New York, the offices in Geneva and Vienna, and special Economic Commissions. ICMCI may now also attend UN conferences and meetings and can circulate 500 word statements at ECOSOC meetings and 1500 word statements at meetings of ECOSOC subsidiary bodies. As Lynn Haight, ICMCI Vice Chair, says “ICMCI is enthusiastic in supporting the goals of ECOSOC by upgrading consulting competencies within lesser developed countries”.
ICMCI was founded in 1987 as a Swiss association by seven non-profit IMC’s from seven countries for the purpose of raising the standard of the management consulting practice worldwide. By the end of 1991, almost all nations with mature management consulting certification processes were represented on the Council. Currently, there are thirty-four nations with membership in ICMCI.
ICMCI’s mission is to elevate the standards of management consultants worldwide and earn recognition as the authoritative international organisation for the development of world-class professional standards and ensure that certified management consultants serve their clients with world-class competency and professionalism.
